Moms are pretty amazing, and I am not just saying that because I am one. Moms are selfless and spend their days taking care of their children and partner. We often put everyone else before ourselves, and as a mom, I know how hard of a job it can be.
I thought we should take a few minutes to honor each and every mom out there and root each other for all the hard work and love we put into each day. I wanted to share 10 reasons why you should love mom and provide 20 gift ideas for Mother’s Day. May 13, 2018, is Mother’s Day, check out what I think you should get that special mom this year, shown at end of the blog post.
Make sure to tell your mom that you love her, no matter how old you are.
10 Reasons to Love Mom
Personally, I’ve always raised my kids to think independently, figure out life and who they are on their own. I lend support, I lend an ear to listen but I try to remain confident in knowing they need to figure out what they love, like, and hate in life without my expectations getting in their way.
The best listener.
I listen and I listen and I listen. Now that I have my first teenager, who is almost 16, I have learned the hard way to start shutting my mouth and listen to what she has to say. It doesn’t matter if I find a life lesson in what she’s sharing with me, I need to simply listen, and watch for any ques that she actually wants advice. If she doesn’t seem to want advice, I just listen and smile.
Always has your best interest at heart, and won’t judge you.
I often tell my teenager that I may not say the right things. I may not understand what she’s going through or how she feels about a topic. What I can guarantee her is that I will love her and her brothers unconditionally no matter who they are and what they do in life.
How selfless mom is and has been through my life.
I am extremely selfless as a mom and a person. I give more than I should to others but when it comes to motherhood, I don’t mind being 100% selfless as that’s my job. My main job is to be their mom and to put their needs first.
There’s nothing wrong with making time to be alone, as a mom, but when it comes to spending on something I want or something the kids need – the kids will be first every time.
Now, the joke around here is that I burn grilled cheese, and then there was this one time I set the stove on fire many years ago. I’ve always been known in years back to set the smoke detector off while cooking.
I’ve come a long way in my almost 16 years of being a mom and like to think the kids do love my cooking, most of the time.
The best nurse when you are sick. Mom’s take care of us like no other person could.
This part is hard for me, as the kids get older they don’t really want mom hovering over them as much. My trio can be highly independent like me or highly needy, it really depends on the day and how much sleep they got or the stress they’re under.
I love taking care of my babies, yes they will forever be my “babies” no matter how old they get.
She always makes me feel like I am home and safe.
I do my best to make my trio feel safe. This means making life changes, adjustments to schedules, and even adding locks in various places if necessary.
I want my kids to know that they are safe because their Mama Bear will make sure they’re taken care of.
Always trying to build confidence in me.
I’ve worked really hard on trying to master the ways of motherhood when it comes to raising kids with high confidence. Situations occurred for each of my kids that have wilted a bit of their esteem, but I work every day to bring their confidence up and to remind them that THEY are in charge of how they feel about themselves, the outside world doesn’t matter.
Outsiders will try to destroy you but remain true to your heart and raise that head up HIGH, you are awesome.
The beauty she radiates from the inside out.
Beauty is deeper than the surface. I recently was told that I am lucky to be pretty. I heard this during a very difficult time and it upset me. I am not one to look in the mirror and think “dang I am hot” but sometimes, I force myself to think that.
It makes your inner beauty brighten. Beauty truly is about the whole person, I would much rather hang around people who have intelligence, compassion, and empathy as their beauty mark than a pretty face.
Her kind heart and spirit.
I am truly blessed to be Mom to these three kids. I love them with every piece of me. I am proud of who they’re becoming as they grow older. I enjoy watching each of my kiddos figure out who they are, what they love, and where they’ll go in life.
Raising my trio is both my biggest challenge and greatest accomplishment. I mean, they are still alive, so there’s that. Ha!
