Being a work from home professional during summer break isn’t easy! We are stuck in the house more often than not and have kids around more often than not. Anyone who knows me knows that I adore being a Mom. I absolutely love my trio and enjoy being the one who helps them grow. No matter how much you love your kids, you still have to get work done to support the family. So how do you balance a bit of fun without spending a ton of cash, for after all summer break means I don’t work as many hours …. well here’s how we do it!
How to Have a Rockin’ Summer Break
Setup a work from home schedule and then a schedule for the kids during that work time. We have a schedule up on the wall near the living room where it designates which boy can have TV or PC turn. This alternates for the morning hours so that the adults can get work done in peace, then come lunch time my working hours must cease to exist.
Take a Break to Walk
We live in the country which means there are ample places to set off on foot to enjoy a little walk. Well that’s just what we did the other day. We ventured out on a THREE HOUR walk, a total of 6 miles we walked with a store break in between for water and snack. It was fun, but boy were we a wee bit sore after that exercise. There’s so much connecting you can do with kids during a nature trail walk … I highly advise this type of break for anyone!
Capture Some Fun Photos
Sometimes during the down moments my trio simply enjoy the one on one focus from their Mama. The youngest is still only 8 and enjoys boyhood! I love his funny personality! Often times I can get some pretty fun photos with him. It’s crazy how just taking time to do funny photos with your kids can build a bond and become something pretty fun to do!
Play with Bouncy Balls
The middle kiddo won 3 large bouncy balls during our visit to Hampton Beach, that kid is the king of the crane machines. Now that we have 3 super sized bouncy balls in the house, the boys pretty much entertain themselves with these toys during those hours we shut down all electronics. Purchase large bouncy balls on Amazon.
Have a Movie Night
Every other Friday all three kids are home, since most of you know I do co-parent the trio so it leaves us with two Fridays a month. On those Fridays we like to pick a movie and sit back with some popcorn. Having a movie night is a low-cost way to have a rockin’ summer break with or without kids. We recently watched Are we There Yet.
Feed the Birds
We purchased and setup a hummingbird feeder. I must admit this keeps me entertained as I watch the hummingbirds swoop in for food, buzz off and then come back again. I swear we will capture them on photo sometime! Feeding the hummingbirds or regular song birds has always been something fun to do with kids.
Go Out for Ice Cream
At the end of a hot, busy summer work from home day nothing hits the spot quite like ice cream from the local ice cream parlor. We have a favorite place to enjoy ice cream during the summer season. Taking the kids out for ice cream is easy enough and if you set limits on the size and cone type they can get, it makes it affordable too!
Play an Adult Game When Kids Alseep
Sure you have to be home more often because the kids are home and not out to school all day long, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some adult time when they are asleep. Consider this fun game idea that has 88 questions for husbands and wives to ask each other. You can purcahse it on Amazon.
There you have it, a few easy ways to have a rockin’ summer break with and without kids. To me life is all about balance, lately life has not been balanced and I am going a little batty over that. I know that we will work on moving forward with balance as it’s important to ensure the adults are at their 100% best to enjoy a rockin’ summer break and the rest of our life together!
