6 Genius Features for Your Future Home

When you think that not long ago you didn’t have internet (or even smartphones), it’s easy to see how technology developed at a tremendous pace. Nowadays, you can do a lot more than watch cat videos on Facebook; you can have a full-on smart home.

Imagine getting home from work and your front door automatically opens for you, or being able to turn off the living room lights without touching anything? These are not just crazy futuristic predictions; these are features you can have in your home right now.

Monitor Your Home With Connected Webcams

These days, you can receive a notification on your smartphone as soon as your kids arrive home or in the event of an unfortunate break-in. Webcams with light and movement sensors can keep you updated about what’s going on at home. It’s also perfect to monitor napping babies.

Turn Your Home Lights on With Voice Commands

Why stand up and flick the switch when you can just say “Ok, Google, turn off the bedroom lights?” When you pair smart speakers like Google Home or Amazon Echo with smart light bulbs or switches, you can easily control your home lighting with voice commands.

Install a Smart Thermostat to Control the Temperature

There are many benefits to upgrading to a smart thermostat. For instance, you don’t need to be physically present anymore to control the temperature of the house; you can do it remotely from work. As it automatically learns your use, it knows when to turn itself off, and therefore, you can save considerably on energy bills.

Have Your Coffee Ready When You Wake Up

It would be great if you could wake up and have a freshly brewed coffee waiting for you at the kitchen table, wouldn’t it? Modern coffee makers can be connected to your smartwatch, which analyzes your sleeping patterns, and brew your coffee exactly when you want it. So, it works even if you don’t wake up at the same time every day.

Use Batteries to Store Excess Energy

It seems like everyone is installing solar panels to reduce their energy bills, but what if you could go one step further? The extra power generated during the day will go back to the grid if you don’t store it. By installing a battery, you can use this stored electricity during peak times to help you save money (you can even sell the excess back to the grid).

Secure Your Home With Smart Locks

If you’ve ever forgotten the keys and found yourself locked outside your home, it might be good to know that with smart locks, you just need your smartphone to get back in. You can even remotely let a relative in if you happen to be away from home when she arrives.

All these features sound like they come straight from “The Jetsons” cartoon, but they’re actually here now. Many people don’t realize how beneficial these new technologies are until they try it. So, the next time you’re upgrading your home, consider adding a smart feature and make the most of it.

We installed a smart thermostat a couple years ago. Now we wonder how we got along without one!

I like the idea for the storing energy in the batteries. That way in any given situation you’d have what you needed and not a worry !
