All too often we take our partner for granted or feel we are taken for granted. I am a firm believer that it takes two people to make a strong and lasting relationship work. Below I will share different ways to feel special in a relationship. This is for him and her, and what needed to receive as well as give to our partner.
Some people struggle with communicating their emotions and how they feel. Others they find it makes them uncomfortable or too vulnerable. When you are in a relationship you should trust that what you say will be cherished and not meant to hurt you later on. Just like so many country songs, you don’t know what you had until it is gone. Don’t let that be the case and make sure to give love, and also tell your partner what you need more of to feel special in the relationship.
How to Make Each Partner Feel Special In The Relationship
Give and Receive Compliments
Being told we look nice, notice a new haircut or compliment us in some way shape or form makes a person feel special. I always say treat your partner the way you want to be treated. If you are always complimenting them, they might return the favor next time you are wearing their favorite sweater.
Why They Matter
Make sure to take time to tell your significant other something they have done to make a difference in your life. Maybe they sit and listen or give great advice. Or they encourage you to take a chance and work hard at reaching your dream or goal. They will never know how you feel if you don’t speak up and voice how you are feeling.
Everyone wants to feel respected in any relationship. Make sure you listen and take note of their opinions. If you are feeling that your partner is not respecting your opinion tell them how you feel and what you want or need to be changed.
Trust goes both ways in a relationship. You want to feel like your partner trusts you and that you can trust your partner. It can be hard if you have been lied to or cheated on in the past. But for a relationship to be successful you have to trust your partner. As time goes on in your relationship, the trust should grow, not diminish.
Make sure to take time and listen to what each other has to say. Have talks about work, life, dreams, things you’re going through, so that you grow together. Make sure that you listen and feel heard when it is your turn to talk. Show interest in what the other person is going through. Give advice when asked or just listen and be a shoulder to cry on if needed.
These are basic components, but when you apply each of these to your relationship you have a chance at great success. They may be so simple but truly some people struggle with meeting these needs. Just caring and remembering why you love your significant other is all it takes and a little give and get.
