It’s a New Year, 2019 has arrived and with that comes the need to revisit goals as well as lifestyle changes that are necessary to make this New Year the best ever. As 2018 unfolded I was taken down emotionally, I lived without my kids for a few months and I fought to get my own thoughts back after a toxic situation. Life threw some curveballs, and while there are some good memories from 2018, there was a lot of hard lessons learned during this past year.
After reflecting on the time that’s passed and lessons that have been taught, I’ve come to realize that setting healthy boundaries is something I totally cave in with. I know how to set healthy boundaries, for the most part, I know what those boundaries are for me, but I rarely stick with them. This was a change I had to start making in late 2018 in order to move forward from total chaos and disaster. I’m sure we all can think back to a time or situation where we didn’t stay firm on healthy boundaries with someone and that situation went haywire, well today I’m sharing my tips for setting healthy boundaries as it pertains to both work and personal life to 1) help others set healthy boundaries and 2) remind myself that healthy boundaries are a good thing.
3 Tips for Setting Healthy Boundaries
Know Where You Stand
The first step to setting healthy boundaries is to do some soul-searching. Think about what emotional and physical boundaries you need in order to live a fulfilling life. For me personally, I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, so I had to become confident in standing up for that diagnosis. This was so to ensure when others were pushing me towards something that seemed like no big deal to them, I could speak up confidently and say that’s not something I’m comfortable with.
Stop Self Doubt
Give yourself permission to stand firm on what you’re comfortable with. No other human being has to give you permission or the okay to set healthy boundaries. It’s important that you let go of self-doubt and remember that if someone cannot respect your boundaries then perhaps they’re not meant to be a part of your life. This holds true for business connections as well. Stand confident about whatever boundaries you’ve set and do not look back.
Lastly, when you’re up for the challenge of setting healthy boundaries it’s always best to start small. Write down some notes on areas in life that are stressing you out, take a moment to review these notes. Once you’ve evaluated what’s stressing you out, see if there are any boundaries you can set for yourself as well as others. Make the commitment to focus on one situation at a time and all will fall into place, eventually.

I had to focus on my business first and foremost this New Year. My biggest goal for 2019, in regards to healthy boundaries, was to set forth a new work schedule and force myself to stick with it so that I can work more efficiently and feel more confident. So far, all is going well and each day I remind myself that in order to achieve my other goals in life and business, I must stand firm on healthy boundaries that allow me to feel complete at the end of each day.
At this moment in my life, I’m happy to say that I have set healthy boundaries with everyone both personal and business wise and I’m still surviving, so are they. If I can do it, you can do it!
