If you desire to increase creativity then you must stop focusing on it. We have started to become a society where we have to have some reason to do something. Sometimes life is much easier to deal with when we do something on a whim. While these 5 easy exercises to increase creativity will be practiced with a purpose, they are more meant to have a little fun than get all stressed over. There are so many playful ways you can increase creativity without putting forth much effort.
Think What Ifs
Normally one would tell you that a “what if” mentality could totally fuel anxiety but today this is more about using what ifs to increase creativity. Here are some samples of thinking about what ifs:
- What if you only had a paperclip to solve a problem? What uses could a paperclip have that aren’t something it’s normally used for?
- What if you could make one rule for the whole world? What would that one rule be?
- What if the world didn’t need sleep, how different would our lives be if sleep were not necessary?
There are many what ifs you can think up, but hopefully those three examples will get your creative mind working. When thinking about each of these “what ifs” learn to go beyond just your immediate answer, truly think deeply about each question and come up with a creative answer for each.
Create Something New
Once per week sit down and create something new. Perhaps you want to create the next fashion line or a new face for a watch. Think of something out of this world or realistic that you can create and draw out your design. Do this once per week with a new idea and watch as your creativity is increased naturally. Who knows, this could make you next inventor of a new product!
Write a Twitter Story
If you are on Twitter then this should be a fun exercise to increase creativity. Work each day to write a story in just 140 characters or less. Post this story to your Twitter feed and have a new one each day. This is a great way to work to simplify how you think and in turn use your creativity to tell a story within a specific character count. If 140 characters is simply far too challenging, start off with 300 words and work your way down.
Look at your Surroundings
Take 5 minutes each day to look at your surroundings. Try to find numbers or faces in tress, napkins, food items, etc. This is the perfect way to increase creativity because you are working to use your imagination. When you practice this fun exercise at least 5 minutes every day you will start to think of new ways to view your surroundings and start having a blast.
Repurpose Something
Go to your local hardware story to find a product that is used for one purpose. Collect some supplies and go home to repurpose this item. Think about PVC piping or kitchen utensils as examples of something you can work to repurpose. This new use of the item doesn’t have to be serious, make this a silly challenge that you do at least once per month as an easy exercise to increase creativity.
The reason you may want to practice these 5 easy exercises to increase creativity is to have a more passionate, fun life. Creative people tend to think outside of the box, love life a bit deeper and smile more often. Each of these little changes not only increase creativity but increase happiness and we all know that happy people tend to be healthier people.
