8 Great Benefits of Owning Ferrets

Although ferrets may not exactly be your first thought when it comes to family pets, they’re little funny creatures that have crazy looks and silly personalities to match.

Just look up funny ferret videos to see examples of that.

My teen owns two ferrets, Floof and Togo, that just turned five years old this year.

As someone who used to not be a fan of ferrets, I can definitely say these two have changed my perspective completely around.

8 Great Benefits of Owning Ferrets

Since I’ve had such a change of heart thanks to those two, I wanted to share with you all some of the best aspects of owning one (or more) of these furry friends.

They’re silly

Ferrets are some of the goofiest pets you can have. They love to bounce, steal things, play, and are super curious about everything. Floof and Togo love to bounce around when they’re excited, and Floof loves to hide away anything she can move.

Ferrets are sociable

You’ll likely never have to worry about your pet not liking you, other animals, or people when you have a ferret. Ferrets love having company no matter what kind. I’ve seen all kinds of times when ferrets befriend other household pets like dogs and cats.

These are quiet animals

Except for the occasional noises when playful or yawning, ferrets are extremely quiet. Floof and Togo make silly squeaks when they play or the occasional squeaky yawn when they’re tired, but even those are nothing compared to meows or barking.

Cuteness factor

These little fluffballs are cute! Ferrets have many different color patterns, fur thickness, ridiculous antics, odd sleeping positions, and sizes. All are quite cute and some combine to make the ultimate adorable pet.

Personalities

Although many pets have personalities, I think ferrets have some of the most unique ones. With our ferrets at home, I see two entirely different characters. Ferret personalities are complex and interesting, just like people, and are easy to bond with.

They’re intelligent

Ferrets have very short attention spans, but incredible intelligence. They can be trained to do tricks-although I’ll admit my teen hasn’t had much success with Floof and Togo-and much more. You can notice how smart they are in their habits too.

Low maintenance pets

Ferrets are considered exotic, which often turns people away. But they can be incredibly low maintenance. A nice enclosure, a few toys, some playtime, and they’re set. They can be litter trained easily as well, which makes for easy cleanup.

Ferrets can be for anyone

Overall, these furry friends can be for pretty much anyone. They make good family pets, don’t need much space, don’t require much effort, they’re quiet, interesting, and much more. No matter your limitations or interests, I think ferrets can appeal to you.

Honestly, there’s plenty more to like about these pets and more things that they can do to entertain you or suit your lifestyle.

Floof and Togo have given our family plenty of great memories and good times with things like the cuddles Togo gives and the silly things they do during playtime.

I think that they can be great pets and provide you a wonderful family pet idea that you’ll love fur-ever and ever.
