Working at home can be a huge blessing in many ways, but it doesn’t mean you don’t need a break from the daily grind of working at home. Just like working in an office, work is work, and that means you can and will get burned out from time to time again. I will help you decipher if you do need a break and how to try and break up your work day to help give you that stress relief you are desiring.
When I say take a break that doesn’t mean hop on a plane and go away for a week to a fun destination sipping a pina colada out of a coconut. It can be simple ways that won’t cost an arm and a leg and still allow you some release for your daily grind of working at home.
Do You Need A Break From The Daily Grind?
Below are some ways that you might agree with if you are struggling with your daily work at home life. If you feel like these things feel like you can say yes too, you might be needing a little breathing room.
- Feeling incredibly bored during the day
- Every small thing that happens feels monumental in your mind
- Feel stressed all day
- Your mood has gone from optimistic to pessimistic
- Not getting good sleep at night because you are thinking of work
- You don’t care about deadlines or the quality of work you do
5 Ways To Take A Break From Working At Home
Take a Break Outside Home
When you can have time off, get out of the house. Change up your scenery even if you go and walk in the park, just getting out of your house can be a great way to feel like you are rejuvenating. Or if you can go to a movie, out to eat, get your nails done, or something, you enjoy.
Exercise In Mornings
Start your mornings off by taking a walk or jog around your neighborhood. Exercise is a mood booster and can help you feel a release from stress. Getting outside first thing, breathing fresh air, and getting the exercise it can get your mind right for tackling the work day.
Weekend Getaway
Even if you go stay in a hotel a town away, just getting out of your home is a great break. Find a fun flea market, amusement rides, or adventures for you and your family to do. Leave your computer at home, and turn notifications off on your phone so you can decompress from work and go back feeling refreshed.
Work Somewhere Else
Sometimes we just can’t stop working for a break. If that is your case, pack up your laptop and head to a coffee shop. If you can’t stop working for the day, at least you can try to change it up. Grab a latte or your favorite cup of joe and enjoy a new office for a while. Or take your laptop to Panera and grab lunch and sit in the corner and work a little. Just getting out can be a big refresher.
Positive Outlook
Sometimes it is easy to see all the things that we want to change but we have to look at all the blessings we have. So many would kill to work at home; there are many things to be thankful for. Look at your job and the opportunities you feel you have, the ability to stay at home, and so on. When you are struggling, remember and repeat the list of reasons why you love working at home. We all have off days, but we can make a bad life if we choose it. Don’t allow a negative outlook to hinder you from the fantastic opportunities you have.

Great tips! I work from home and I need to get up now and then to go outside. Sometimes I eat my lunch in my front yard. I agree also about exercising in the mornings, if I don’t do it at that time, I won’t do it at all.
I have found that everything can burn you out if you do it out of proportion. True for even those things we love. 🙂
