There is a lot of fuss on the internet among a community that once was flourishing with supportive people who helped each other out. There wasn’t this mentality that you couldn’t help another like-minded blogger out because it would take away from your income. There wasn’t the negativity of putting down others for doing things their own way. We all came together, supported each other and now look at us who have been blogging for 8 plus years … they are all making a good living with their blogs.
I firmly believe that there is a place for competition but it isn’t in the online marketplace. The internet is a huge playground where everyone can succeed in their own way. Look at your local community; are there not many painters, landscapers and similar businesses that are successful? The world and internet is so humongous that each of us are able to have a thriving business, in a similar niche, without having to bash the other guy. Blogging has become a very crazy environment. It’s as if people are starting to get insecure, or perhaps they already were insecure, I am not sure. What I can say is that I don’t see you as competition.
When you get that big gig campaign that pays you thousands or you get a free trip with Disney, I don’t feel a tinge of bitterness nor envy towards you at all. I feel happiness, because I see you are happy and you are proud. I feel that pride in the photos you share, the posts you write and all that you put out there online. I don’t once feel envious of your happiness, for I too have happiness. My happiness may not be measured in the same way yours is, and that’s the beauty of being individuals.
When I look at another ghostwriter or freelance writer as they are called who is charging more than I charge for an article or seem to just have this skill that sells articles by the fist full, I don’t get envious. I get proud, I love that they are succeeding because I am succeeding too. Just because my rate is lower or I only sell a specific amount of content doesn’t make me feel less than, gosh I am paying bills and enjoying two road trips a month. Life is good! You aren’t competing with me you are succeeding in your way while I am succeeding in mine.
I can’t even think of one moment where I looked at someone else doing awesome things and felt a negative emotion towards them. Perhaps it’s simply my positive thinking skills kicking in, but I truly enjoy seeing everyone reach their version of success and if you are someone who is bashing another human being for how they are doing things, I am going to walk away and not pay attention to you. I just feel the space is so large online that we could benefit from the old school peeps that I started out with 8 years ago, we all believed in blogging karma and we all believed in uplifting, supporting each other and remaining positive as a blogging community.
Remember, they are not your competition; another person will not take your business away. What will take your business away is a negative attitude, bullying and trying to gain business by putting another business down. No one wants to work with that, why would they? So today, look around and peek at those who you may feel threatened by when it comes to success. Let go of those feelings and perhaps be more positive towards them and watch as you realize there’s enough room online for us all.
Happy thoughts to you ….
