Dealing with a lack of self-confidence can be hard. Though it’s a problem many of us face, it’s something few of us talk about. Because of this silence, it can often feel as though you’re alone in the battle. The trouble is, a lack of confidence can affect every aspect of your life. When you have a lack of faith in yourself, the simplest tasks can leave you crippled with anxiety. From meeting up with friends to going into a shop alone; it can all seem like a challenge. Worse, people who don’t suffer from the problem fail to understand what you’re going through. They’ll disregard your fears as strange, or even childish. This disregard serves to make the problem worse! If you’re fed up of not believing in yourself, it’s time to make a much-needed change. Here’s how.
SPEAK TO A COUNSELLOR
Too often, people disregard counselors. In truth, we could all do with a little therapy to help us through. No one is without issues. If your lack of confidence is extreme, a counselor should be your first port of call. Of course, it won’t be an easy step to take. With a lack of confidence comes the conviction that no one will want to hear what you have to say. It’s crucial you get past that if you want things to improve. Accept that you might find the process hard to start with. That’s okay. You don’t have to say everything straight away. Focus on the search for a counselor you feel a connection with, and go from there.
LEARN TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF
Learning to feel good about yourself will take you a long way towards recovery. Take a little time to treat yourself with kindness. No one is harsher on us than we are to ourselves. If it helps, approach yourself as you would another person. You may be surprised to find that you don’t look at yourself so harshly this way. Instead of dwelling on parts of yourself you don’t like, think about your good points. It can also help to work on your appearance. A lot of the time, lack of confidence comes from an insecurity about how we look. Recognize what you don’t like, and consider if there’s anything you can do to change it. If you think it would help, contact a company like Belcara Health and see if there’s anything they can do. If the way you feel about yourself is having an extreme effect, you might need to turn to extreme methods to solve it.
FACE YOUR FEARS
A lack of self-confidence can often lead us to lock ourselves away. The more you avoid social situations, the harder it’ll be to get back on your feet. Instead of making excuses next time someone invites you for a night out, take them up on the offer. Accept that you need to feel that fear and face it anyway. You never know, you might find you have a good time!
