Hike to the Eagle\’s Nest Overlook on Mount Sunapee

I will be honest, I have hiked this amazing spot more than once, but we wanted to share this view with our youngest son. So one Saturday, we got in the rig and ventured to Newbury, NH harbor to park our rig and walk up to the trailhead.

This hike is a short 1.1 mile hike and it contains the best view a the top that I\’ve seen in a long while. I shared our spooky experience we had after hiking this trail the other day, but today? I am focused on this free trail that anyone can hike in Newbury, NH

You have to park near this caboose in Newbury, NH since the trailhead area has zero parking post. Be respectful please and listen to the rules of where to park for this trail. I liked using the AllTrails App to do this trail to the beautiful view.

The reason I recommend using the AllTrails App is that we got off track a little when hiking this trail today, and I had to pull the app up to find our way \”back\” to the right trail junction. I had a paid subscription to their app, it\’s easier to use that way.

The sign above shows you the three-foot traffic trails you can do on this particular section of trails here in Newbury, New Hampshire. As stated earlier, all three trails need you to park at the caboose.

Most of this hiking trail is uphill, and there is a narrow path towards the summit before you turn the corner and see the magnificent view of Newbury New Hampshire Harbor.

This is in the woods, and there are a couple of water crossing spots. This is said to help you know that while we feel this is an amazing short hike in the woods, it is not suitable for all people. It\’s an easy trail with incline, narrow portions on a hilly area, and running stream passing that can be slippery!

If you\’re searching for a simple 1.1-mile hike in New Hampshire, then please do give this trail a try. We had a great time, and the view a the top is a good view that I highly recommend seeing at least one time in your life.

Key Takeaways

  • You have to cross some water areas, so you may get your shoes wet.
  • Due to slippery water sections, it may not be suitable for younger kids.
  • It is in the woods, with little cell service (if any) so be prepared for no service.
  • Experience beautiful views of small waterfalls and the summit is gorgeous.
  • Use the All Trails App to stay on the right path to the summit (Eagles Nest Summit Trail 1.1 miles) Click here to see the right trail on All Trails App.
