When you’re a kid all you can think about is the desire to be an adult. Being an adult sound so appealing, you can do anything you want. You will have no rules. You won’t have to listen to your parents and you can go on any adventure you want. It has been said that childhood is wasted on the youth or something like that. This is so true. When you’re a kid the idea of adulthood sounds like a new level of freedom, but the sad reality about adulthood is that it’s not as wonderful as you envisioned when you were a kid.
How to Enjoy Adulthood Like a Child
You can step back in time in your adult life to enjoy adulthood like a child. There are a few simple steps to take and habits to form so that you’re able to experience the adulthood that you desired when you were a kid. Today I’ll share a few ways to enjoy adulthood like a child.
Pause to Be Present
As adults, we get so busy in our everyday life that we neglect to pause and be truly present. The demands of adulthood require us to focus more on earning money to pay the bills, keeping a stable job, and making sure our family has the necessities. This part of adulthood can be stressful and cause us to forget about the simple joys in life. Make it a habit to pause to be fully present in your life every day by sitting down with your family and hearing everything they say. Engage in the conversation without worrying about your adult responsibilities at least twenty minutes per day to ensure that you start to enjoy adulthood like a child.
Have Some Fun
If you have kids the last thing they want to remember from their childhood is that their parents worked all of the time and never paused to have some fun. Whether or not you have kids is irrelevant when it comes to pausing to have some fun. Many adults take up fun hobbies such as paintball, laser tag, or even bicycling or hiking as a means to experience some fun. Find an activity or hobby that you will enjoy to have some fun on a regular basis. When you learn how to have some fun on a regular basis you’ll be better able to enjoy adulthood like a child and feel less stressed during your regularly scheduled adult responsibilities.
Let Go of Expectations
When you’re a kid there are no real expectations, you’re able to enjoy anything and everything so as long as your parents allow you to do so. As an adult, we place higher expectations on ourselves to make so much money, to have more than we need, and to stay busy because that’s what society has raised us to do. If you truly want to enjoy adulthood like a child then you’ll have to work on letting go of the expectations that we’ve placed on ourselves as well as what others have placed upon us as a means to have some fun and be more present in our everyday life. Be comfortable being content and living with an attitude that focuses on pleasure being just as much a priority as adult responsibilities.
These are just a few ways you can start to focus on making sure you enjoy adulthood like a child so that you’re less anxious, less stressed, and happier overall in your life as a responsible adult. It’s important for your physical and mental health to learn how to enjoy adulthood like a child, as this mentality will guide you forward in feeling more balanced and peaceful no matter what your adult life tosses at you.
