Let\’s go to the Montshire Museum of Science

The Montshire Museum of Science located in Norwich, VT is just a short drive for us to go see science in action. This hands-on museum allows you to see the wildlife such as turtles, fish, and other local swimmers at the facility\’s start. Then you can venture over to the wind tunnel on this particular day, plus the bubble area, and much more on the second and third floors of this science center.

This is a place that the whole family can enjoy. Even my 40-plus-year-old self was having a blast, but I am also known to be a little childlike whenever possible. For example, click here to see my YouTube video of me playing with the bubble area.

Key Takeaways

  • The Montshire Museum of Science provides hefty discounts to those on NH or VT EBT, adult Medicaid, and free/reduced lunch programs.
  • Located in Norwich, VT just off I-91 makes it easy to access.
  • A nature trail for hiking is on the facility.
  • Fun for all ages even adults and teenagers.
  • They swap out their displays every so often, so have a unique experience on almost every visit.

Years ago we went to the Montshire Museum of Science to see a t-rex named Sue. This t-rex was on loan to this Vermont science museum from another location, and it was during a time when the youngest was in his dinosaur phase. Everything we did was dinosaurs. From books to playtime to everything in between, dinosaurs were the name.

Fast forward to current times, and me being a mom of adults & teens, we still enjoy going to this science center from time to time to just play around. They have a hiking nature trail that we have yet to go on, though. Maybe next time I\’ll be sharing a bit about the trail they have on the facility.

This time around, it was just the youngest son and us visiting the Montshire Museum of Science on the family outing fun day. You see when you homeschool and work at home, well I guess his Dad works outside of the home, but still, when you\’re doing all the responsible things all week long it is nice to have something to look forward to, and that is what these family fun days are – something to look forward to.

During our Montshire Museum of Science Visit

When you first walk into the Montshire Museum of Science, you\’ll see the desk where you pay to visit. I know they have some specials for those on NH or VT state assistance, so be sure to click here and read more about how you can get a special family deal when you\’re on those forms of help. It looks like you can get $3 admission for VT or NH residents with EBT card, adult Medicaid card, or free/reduced price school meals letter. Limit 6 visitors.

So bring your EBT card, adult Medicaid card, or reduced/free lunch program letter to get up to 6 visitors discounted. I love that they offer this program because regardless of your thoughts on state assistance, having a way for lower-income families (as I have been during my younger single mom days with 3 kids) is an excellent option to keep kids off the streets and encourage families to do something TOGETHER.

I am not a person who can make beautiful music, but I tried my hand at bottle music. These balls blow air up on those bottles with water above, making music with air. This is a fun hands-on learning experience for us to see how you can make sound with vibrating air.

Isn\’t our natural world so awesome? I think so.

\"\"

Don\’t forget to pop towards the back of the first floor where you can try to find the Queen ant in this colony of ants. They make a note of when she was last spotted and in which container, plus you can use this light to try to find her even more. Learn more about the various types of ants that work together, much like your family, to get things done.

\"\"

Then you can turn to the side to try your hand at the bicycle elevator. Get the animal creatures up to the top shelf. It takes a lot of work, and I should have a video up on my YouTube channel with this at some point. Perhaps you can subscribe to my YouTube channel to see when that short or video goes live. One of my forever favorite spots in the Montshire Museum of Science will forever be the moose that\’s located on the second floor. I have seen this moose so many times in my years of being a human, but it never ceases to amaze me. For those who don\’t know, I recently had a real-life encounter with a moose.

Here\’s the story; I pulled into my parking spot in my backwoods home here in New Hampshire, opened my suburban door, and looked at the driveway behind me to be face to face with a … large ass moose! This moose and I almost had the same pause before we both went, \”MOOSE\” and \”HUMAN\”, I said \”oh, hello\” as that\’s all that came to mind, and then he trotted off up the driveway, and across the road, over the neighbor\’s stonewall. I have yet to see this moose again, but I hope my cameras will catch him soon.

You never realize just how big these magnificent creatures are until you\’re near them either at the Montshire Museum of Science in Vermont or at home in your driveway.

I had to take the photo above that shows the beautiful museum from the third floor, which is a room with fog and fun. We had a blast being silly with the fog, yup, you can watch that on YouTube here.

\"\"

That\’s where you learn about the fog above. I loved this room so much. Then you can move on to see the lights and learn about lights, so much fun, too! I mean this place is just all about the fun. It\’s great for teenagers and little kids and families of all types to enjoy their time here. I cannot rave enough about this museum. I may even become a member this year so I can bring my niece if my sister lets me someday.

\"\"

Last, but surely not least, venture to the top of the building where you can go and peer out around the world. This is a fun balcony that used to have a sightseeing viewer, but perhaps since this was still the winter season they had it put away for the cold weather in VT.

If you try to plan a family outing here, you won\’t be disappointed because it\’s such a beautiful spot to enjoy outdoor activities. If I remember correctly they have a water area in the summer season that my niece enjoyed when she was little and so did my kids). It\’s worth a trip, and I\’ve gone so many times that I\’ve lost count. The Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vermont is one of those family day trip spots that never gets old.

\"\"

P.S. If you think I\’ve shared it all, I have not! there is so much more here from the bees to the wood area, to the little kids\’ play area for the smaller kids and so much more! I didn\’t want to give it all away so that you had somethings to look forward to that you didn\’t see in my write of this location.
