My How the Mama Tables Have Turned

As I wrapped up a phone call with a client, I grabbed my pens, pad of paper, and a file folder with all of my client\’s stuff and opened my suburban door. I put one foot out and then the next, before I knew it, was slowly walking toward my front door steps when I realized that I was … barefoot.

Yes, barefoot!

I was having a phone conversation with one of my clients about her book, questions, hopes, dreams, and goals for the completion of her beautiful story when I realized I had been barefoot the entire time in my vehicle. This, my friends, makes me giggle.

I am constantly barefoot.

So much so, that my youngest son is constantly telling me to \”put some shoes on\” or \”put some socks on\” because I tend to just slip on my white shoes without socks to venture out into the world of grocery shopping, getting my sons to boxing or work, etc., etc.

It seems socks are a rare occasion for me, mostly I wear them with my walking/running shoes to ensure I don\’t get blisters when taking my long 7500 + step walks with both or one of my sons. THESE are the best RUNNING SHOES!!

As you can see in the image above, I am barefoot on the Lazy Boy Chaise lounge with my younger dog as I try to work from my laptop in the spot where I get the most natural light in this small home.

I must share a blog post soon with tips for finding free things that are awesome (the chair was FREE) – Remind me!

I am just in this season of life where I want to be barefoot constantly. I start my day by walking out to the chickens to let them free and do the animal chores whilst barefoot. I have stepped on pinecones, they used to hurt my feet but they no longer do, I get pine pitch on my feet, and I have stepped in chicken poop often for I do go barefoot into their hen house or caged area … it\’s just a natural way to live – barefoot.

But, my friends, my son who used to love living barefoot is now in this \”wear your shoes\” mission. Alas, the roles have been reversed. The youngest child is lecturing me about wearing socks or shoes, as I may have once lectured the kids to do the same.

Although, this child is pretty annoyed with me because as much as I may have been the \”wear your shoes and socks Mama\” for some of the Trio\’s life, I wasn\’t that way with all of them. The youngest has feet that are the example of a child who barely wore shoes or socks. He was my wild child with a free spirit and while now he is trying to tame himself to be whomever he is called upon by God to be, I find that his wild nature isn\’t as wild as mine seems to be.

And that\’s perfectly fine.

I just have to laugh now that the roles are reversed and it\’s no longer the Mama telling the kid to put their shoes or socks on, it\’s the child … because I think that\’s just how life goes in this human world.

We start as young babies, unable to do anything ourselves, then we learn how to be human, we talk, we grow, we wear clothing, we learn about the world around us, and we attend some form of schooling, I love that homeschooling is becoming more popular, and we continue in our journey of being human and learning what humans do in various scenarios.

And then it\’s repeated with our children doing the same, growing up, learning, and helping us as we age further into the human world.

I admire the growth of humans and human nature in general and have loved learning more each day I am alive. The blessing that is raising kids will open your mind and eyes to a whole new world. It\’s fascinating to see each generation before me and after me. I am someone who was blessed to be close to her great grandmother so I learned a lot about those days of her upbringing and her current times before her passing.

I listen and learn from my elders who are my grandparents and my parents during this season in life whenever I can, and I embrace the challenges my children bring forth to me as I navigate these years of a heavily used technology world.

I embrace it all but I will embrace it barefoot and wild. 🤣

So, no matter how many times my kid tells me to put shoes or socks on? I will defy his requests and go barefoot more often just to be the wild and free spirit that is me, a joyful spirit having a human experience.

That\’s all I had to say today, I hope you find some humor in it, and maybe share it with a friend who also is barefoot and wild like me, perhaps they need a little inspiration to know that they are not alone in their \”barefoot ways\”. ha!
