My Journey to Becoming More Spiritual

For the longest time, I lived in a constant state of striving—trying to be better, to do more, to prove something. I was always chasing this elusive idea of perfection, believing that if I could just be a little more successful, a little more “together,” I’d finally find peace and happiness. But the more I chased, the more drained I became. It felt like no matter how much I did, it was never enough.

At some point, I knew something had to change. I couldn’t keep living like this, feeling as though I was missing out on life while I raced toward a future that never seemed to arrive. And that’s when I realized that maybe the answer wasn’t in doing more, but in doing less. Not in becoming someone new, but in shedding the layers of who I thought I needed to be.

That was the beginning of my spiritual journey—one that has been far from perfect, but one that has allowed me to become more of who I truly am.

Letting Go of the Old Me

The first thing I had to do was confront the version of myself I had been holding onto for so long. This old version was tightly wound, constantly comparing myself to others, and driven by an endless need for approval. It wasn’t easy to let go. After all, that version of me had helped me achieve many things—but it also kept me in a cycle of dissatisfaction and anxiety.

I had to learn to let go of the need to control every aspect of my life. This meant letting go of the idea that I could orchestrate my happiness, that if I just did x, then I’d feel y. Instead, I started to trust in something greater than myself—a flow, a divine energy, the universe, God, whatever name you give it. I began to believe that life unfolds as it’s meant to, and that my job is not to force it but to flow with it.

This was the start of shedding the old me—the one who thought she could only be happy if she was perfect, if everything went her way.

Embracing a New Way of Being

Once I started to let go, I began to embrace a new version of myself, one that is far more grounded in the present moment. The biggest shift I’ve experienced is learning to be calm and accepting, no matter what life brings my way. It’s not that I’ve suddenly become immune to stress or disappointment, but I no longer let those things rule my life.

I’ve embraced the understanding that everything in life is temporary—both the highs and the lows. When I’m in a challenging moment, I remind myself that it will pass. And when I’m in a joyful moment, I savor it, knowing it’s fleeting. This allows me to live with more balance and appreciation for each day, rather than always waiting for the next thing.

Meditation and mindfulness have been essential tools on this journey. These practices help me stay connected to the present moment and to the deeper part of myself that knows peace isn’t something I have to chase—it’s something that’s already within me.

Learning to Flow with Each Day

One of the most beautiful gifts of this spiritual journey has been learning to accept each day as it comes. In the past, I would wake up with a rigid plan, and if things didn’t go according to that plan, I would spiral into frustration or stress. Now, I’ve learned to wake up with a sense of openness, ready to embrace whatever the day brings.

I try to remind myself that I’m not in control of everything. Some days will go smoothly, and others won’t. Some days will be filled with joy, and others may be challenging. But no matter what happens, I can choose how I respond. I can choose to show up with calm, acceptance, and trust in the process.

This doesn’t mean I’ve stopped setting goals or working toward things that matter to me. It just means I’ve learned to loosen my grip and trust that whatever is meant for me will find its way to me, in its own time.

Becoming More Spiritual

For me, becoming more spiritual has been less about following a specific set of beliefs or practices and more about connecting with my inner self and the greater energy that flows through all of us. It’s about recognizing that we are all connected, that we are all part of something much bigger than ourselves.

I’ve come to see that my spiritual growth isn’t about achieving some kind of perfection—it’s about learning to live more authentically, more fully in the present moment, and more in tune with the energy of the universe.

I’ve also realized that being spiritual doesn’t mean you have to be calm and zen 100% of the time. It’s okay to have moments of frustration or sadness. The key is to acknowledge those emotions without letting them take over. When I can step back and observe my feelings without judgment, I’m able to return to that place of calm and acceptance much more quickly.

A Journey, Not a Destination

What I’ve come to understand is that becoming a better person, becoming more spiritual, is not a destination you arrive at one day. It’s a journey—a constant practice of letting go, embracing the flow of life, and showing up with presence and gratitude each day.

Some days, I slip back into old patterns of stress or control, and that’s okay. The beauty of this journey is that it’s forgiving. Every day is a new opportunity to come back to myself, to practice being more present, more accepting, and more open to life as it is.

This journey has brought me more peace, joy, and connection than I ever thought possible. And while I’m still growing and learning, I can say with confidence that I am more in tune with my true self than ever before. I’ve shed the old me—the one who thought happiness was something I had to earn—and embraced a new way of being that allows me to live more fully, more freely, and more joyously.

If you’re on a similar path, know that it’s okay to take it slow. Be patient with yourself. Trust in the process, and remember that each day is a chance to shed a little more of the old and embrace the new. As you do, you’ll find yourself living more in flow, more in peace, and more in harmony with the beautiful unfolding of your life.
