Practical Steps to Embrace a Life of \”Just Is\”

In my last post, I shared how shifting my mindset from labeling everything as good or bad to simply accepting that it \”just is\” changed the way I live. It\’s a philosophy that has brought me peace and a deeper connection to myself, others, and the world. Today, I want to dive deeper into how you, too, can begin living in this state of mind—one where nothing is inherently good or bad, and everything just is.

I know that this way of thinking can feel abstract or even challenging, especially in a world that loves to categorize and label. But I promise, with some intentional shifts in how you see the world, you can start to embrace this state of mind and experience the freedom that comes with it. Here’s how you can begin:

1. Practice Acceptance of the Present Moment

The first step in living a life of \”just is\” is learning to accept the present moment, exactly as it is. This means letting go of the urge to judge or label whatever is happening around you. Instead, simply notice.

For example, if you\’re stuck in traffic, rather than labeling it as \”bad\” and letting your mind spiral into frustration, try to observe it for what it is: You\’re in a car, and the cars in front of you aren\’t moving. That’s it. Accept it. From this place of acceptance, you’ll find that your stress diminishes because you’re no longer fighting against reality.

Acceptance doesn\’t mean complacency—it means you acknowledge what is, without letting it disrupt your inner peace.

2. Release the Need to Control Outcomes

We often feel anxious or disappointed when things don’t go our way, but that’s because we’re attached to specific outcomes. The truth is, life rarely unfolds exactly as we plan. When you can let go of the need to control outcomes, you create space for life to flow naturally.

Instead of thinking, This should have happened or I wish it went differently, practice saying, This is how it happened, and I trust that it’s part of my journey. This allows you to release the tension of control and flow with life, rather than resist it.

3. Recognize the Oneness in Every Interaction

One of the most transformative aspects of living this way is realizing the deep connection we all share. When you stop seeing yourself as separate from others, you begin to approach people and situations with greater compassion and understanding.

The next time you feel frustration or judgment toward someone, remind yourself that they are also walking their path, just like you. They have their own struggles, fears, and joys. In recognizing that we are all in this together, you naturally soften and approach others with a more open heart. This shift not only deepens your relationships but also brings a sense of peace within yourself.

4. Surrender to What Is

Life, in all its unpredictability, will bring both joy and sorrow. Instead of trying to resist or change what’s happening, try surrendering to it. This doesn\’t mean giving up—rather, it’s about embracing what life is presenting you at this moment and trusting that it\’s part of the larger flow.

When you surrender, you release the internal resistance that causes suffering. You\’re no longer caught up in wishing things were different or better—you’re simply allowing them to be as they are, trusting that they’re unfolding in the way they need to.

5. Live with Gratitude for the Simple Moments

When you stop labeling experiences as good or bad, you\’ll start to notice the beauty in the simplicity of life. It’s easy to miss the small moments when we’re chasing after something grander or better. But when you live in the space of \”just is,\” you start to appreciate things as they are.

A quiet morning, the warmth of the sun, a conversation with a friend—all these moments hold incredible beauty when we stop trying to classify them. Living with gratitude for the simple, everyday experiences brings a deeper sense of joy and fulfillment.

6. Let Go of Ego

Perhaps the most challenging—but also the most freeing—aspect of this journey is letting go of ego. The ego loves to compare, categorize, and place us above or below others. But when we let go of the idea that we’re “special” or “better” than anyone else, we begin to see ourselves as part of the whole.

You don’t need to be more successful or more unique than anyone else to be worthy. You are already enough. When you drop the ego, you can show up in the world with a lightness and authenticity that allows you to truly live. You’re no longer performing for approval or validation—you’re simply being, and that is enough.

7. Start Small and Be Patient with Yourself

Living this way takes time and practice. It’s not about flipping a switch and suddenly everything is perfect. There will be moments when you slip back into judgment, control, or comparison. And that’s okay. This journey is about progress, not perfection.

Start by practicing acceptance in small moments. Notice when you’re placing labels on things, and gently remind yourself to let go of those labels. With time, you’ll find that you naturally begin to live in this state of “just is,” and the more you do, the more peace and joy you’ll experience.

Living in a state where nothing is good or bad and everything \”just is\” doesn’t mean life will be devoid of challenges. What it does mean is that you’ll approach those challenges with a sense of peace and trust in the larger flow of life. When you let go of judgment, control, and ego, you open yourself up to a life that is fuller, richer, and more connected to the world around you.

You are not separate from anyone or anything. We are all walking this path together, and the more we embrace this truth, the lighter and more joyful our steps will become. So, let’s continue this journey together—living fully, walking in light, and embracing the beautiful unfolding of life, just as it is.
