When you turn on the news or surf the internet, I’m sure you’ve seen all the chaos that’s going on in the world. While this person wants to point their finger at that person and vice versa, the reality is that we’re all a little messed up right now.
I have my opinions about the subject, but today we’re going to discuss something different; simple ways to keep family safe. Regardless of how you feel about the fault of the state of our country, one thing is for sure, it’s not as safe as it once was.

I remember walking down the streets of my small hometown when I was younger. I’d go down the road and gather with other kids, hang out playing football, or just sitting around laughing. We would ride bikes, play basketball, and eventually when I got a little older we’d play N64 games.
My mother probably had no clue where I was, and it didn’t matter.
I was safe.
It was a different “it takes a village” sort of world back then.
No child, well most of us, wouldn’t dare disrespect another child’s parent, for the consequences would not be fun.
With all this being said, parents everywhere may feel a little reluctant to allow their kids to just roam the streets as we did in our youth, but it is part of letting go.
Today I’m sharing some simple tips to help you protect your family all the while letting your kids get a little space to make their own experiences and mistakes.
Get a Security Camera
I’m not one for the security cameras that upload to some cloud that’s owned by a big corporation but most of us only have that choice. That’s why I love seeing what other parents are using for security cameras. I’ve heard fabulous things about Arlo security cameras, and while the price is a bit steep for the budget it may be well worth the investment for peace of mind.
Make an Emergency Plan
Your family must know where to meet and what to do should something horrible happen. Many families have an emergency plan for bad weather conditions or house fires, but what if someone is outside being unruly and you need to hide safely? These are the times we’re living in so make sure you have an emergency plan that is realistic and covers all bases. The last thing you want to do is have some chaos hit outside your home and the kids have no idea what to do.
Learn About Guns
I don’t care if you refuse to own a gun, it’s imperative that you know more about guns. Just last summer I finally learned how to safely use guns. Using guns isn’t as scary as I had anticipated and it’s important to know how to safely use a gun. It’s best to educate the family about guns and gun safety so that they know what the item is and don’t pick up something they shouldn’t.
If you’re a gun-holding family, make sure you follow proper gun safety and laws. I love the idea of using Kydex holsters if you’re going to carry it around with you.

When it comes to simple tips to keep family safe, all you need to know is that you’re the parent and you’re the one who makes the decisions for your household. If you feel guns will make you feel less anxious, then by all means look into getting that background check done and getting a permit, if your region requires any permit or registration process.
If you feel safer with a security camera, then invest in a security option like Arlo that has been given many positive reviews for family safety. Do what you feel within your gut is best for your family’s safety and soon you’ll feel less tense and stressed about our current times.
