Remind Yourself of Goal
Make sure to take time to remind yourself of the goal you set. Do you want to get so much work done and complete the task at hand, lose that five pounds you have been working towards? Whatever your goal is, remind yourself. If you lose sight of your goal, it will be so much easier to lose that motivation when you first began.
Look Back at What You Achieved Already
Take a step back and look at where you started, have you already achieved or worked a lot towards your goal. Pat yourself on the back and remind yourself of how far you have come. When we are in the moment that little bit we accomplished might not seem like a lot, but we can’t discredit it. When you get frustrated or lose that motivation you had in the beginning, reflect and see if that can clarify and motivate you.
Rewarding yourself is always great for mood-boosting. Create little mile markers along the way that when you reach that point you reward yourself. You can decide what your reward will be, but it gives you something tangible to work towards and helps you reach your final goal. Maybe you want to dine out for an evening, a manicure, buy a new shirt, get a drink at a coffee shop, the choice is yours.
Track your progress each week on a calendar or spreadsheet. This is a great way to really see your progress and keep you on the same path to reaching your goal. If you see you are lagging a bit, you know you need to kick it in and get back on track.
Practice positive self-talk, this is a great way to keep you energized and motivated along the way. Tell yourself you can do it, your smart, determined, etc. Try to stay away of self-criticism and breaking down all your hard work, as that is a simple way to lose interest.
It is easy to get overwhelmed or burned out when we go, go, go. Make sure to take time to rest and rejuvenate along the way. If you are working on a project, take a night off, or working out, skip a night at the gym.
