If there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself lately, it’s this: I am a walking paradox. And I bet you are too.

We are complicated beings, shaped by how we were raised, the beliefs we absorbed, and the ways we learned to protect ourselves. It’s no wonder that we show up in contradictions; sometimes bold and brave, sometimes timid and unsure. Sometimes open-hearted, sometimes defensive. Both can be true, and both live within us at the same time.

I used to think that contradictions meant I was broken or inconsistent. But the more I do this inner work, the more I see them for what they really are: signs of my humanness. Evidence that I am still growing, still unraveling old patterns, still choosing who I want to be today.

And here’s the truth that brings me peace—no choice I make today is forever. I will circle back, I will spiral around, and I will eventually land on what is meant for me. There’s so much freedom in knowing that I don’t have to “get it right” in one shot.

Meeting My Shadow Side

The more aware I become of my shadow side, the more I realize how much it has shaped my journey. My shadow is a lot more intense than the small pieces I share here, and maybe one day it will turn into a book where I can dive deeper. For now, I share pieces on this blog, not because I have it all figured out, but because I want to “do it differently” and maybe encourage you to do the same.

The key to shadow work isn’t fighting against it or shaming yourself for it. It’s about recognition, compassion, and gentle reminders.

  • Recognize it.
  • Feel it.
  • Accept it.
  • Remind it that you are no longer that child who needed to hide or shrink.

The shadow part of us simply wants to be seen, loved, and integrated.

Why Contradictions Don’t Mean Failure

Here’s an example from my own life. I thought I was parenting in ways completely different from my parents. And in many ways, I was. Yet one day, my daughter confided in me that I had left her feeling something eerily similar to how my parents once made me feel.

That moment shook me awake. I realized that we repeat what we do not fully understand or heal. Even if the actions look different on the surface, the emotions underneath can ripple through generations if we’re not careful.

Did it hurt to hear? Absolutely. But it also gave me the gift of awareness. And awareness is always the first step toward change.

One Contradiction at a Time

The work is not about “fixing” all of our paradoxes overnight. It’s about noticing them, one by one, and making small shifts. Maybe today I choose to soften my tone instead of letting frustration lead. Maybe tomorrow I will remind myself that I can step into confidence without apology.

And maybe next week, I’ll stumble and repeat an old pattern. That’s okay too. Growth isn’t linear; it’s cyclical.

The gift is in showing up with joy in my heart, knowing that every attempt, every contradiction, every small step is part of the process.

An Invitation

So, if you feel like you’re messy, contradictory, or imperfect, welcome to being human, the paradox isn’t something to fear; it’s something to embrace.

The more we allow ourselves to accept our contradictions, the more freedom we give ourselves to evolve. And maybe, just maybe, by “doing it differently,” we can change the way we show up in the world.
