Tips for Home Improvements

As we continue to be stuck at home more often than not, now is an excellent time to start thinking about home improvements. I’ve watched many friends online do a bathroom remodel recently and others are working on a tiny home or remodeling their family room.

Home improvements come in all shapes and sizes! I love watching others work on their remodel and use new items like Kohler showers to help liven up their bathroom remodel project.

I just love watching a room or entire home be transformed during the home remodeling project. It’s a wonderful way to see what is possible. I have so many creative online friends that do amazing work with their home improvement projects.

I’m always left in awe of their amazing creativity, fast work, and fabulous bathroom remodel ideas. My friends are truly a creative and frugal bunch and it shows with their home improvements project.

How can I renovate my bathroom cheaply?

Here are a few tips I’ve learned over the years from friends who work on home improvements projects:

Always Have a Plan

When it comes to a bathroom remodel, you’ll need a plan before you start. This plan must include a budget, timeline, and ideas that all work to fit your vision and wallet.

Don’t Move Plumbing

If you truly want to save the most money with home improvements to your bathroom or any room that has plumbing, keep the plumbing where it is. Do not move sinks, toilets, Kohler showers, or other items that use plumbing from their original spot.

Make a Frame

Don’t go out and purchase some expensive bathroom mirror that’s all framed in. You can easily make a frame for that lower-end bathroom mirror during your bathroom remodel projects to ensure your mirror looks fabulous for half the price.

Replace Seat and Lid

Instead of replacing your entire toilet when you’re working on a bathroom remodel, just replace the seat and lid. This can go a long way in sprucing up your bathroom with way lower costs than exchanging a brand new toilet for the old one.

Essential Tips to Get Started

Now that we have some rambles, a few frugal tips to save money with home improvements to your bathroom, it’s time to share some essential tips to help you get started with your next home improvement project.

Choose the Type of Bathroom

Apparently, there are a few choices of the bathroom to choose from when you’re looking to do a bathroom remodel. So, I guess before you go out buying those Kohler showers, you need to know if you’re going to go with a standard bath, a half bath, or a wet bathroom.

Each of these bathroom options involves having a specific area that’s suitable for each style of shower/bath combination or lack therefore. You’ll know best which type of bathroom you want based on working with a designer or using the internet to get samples of each model bathroom.

Create a Bathroom Layout

Again, being mindful of the tips I shared above such as not to move the plumbing. Take a moment to determine where you want each item in the bathroom and how you envision your bathroom to work.

You might want the sink off at the end of the room when someone walks in, or off to the right. The shower or half-bath, whatever type of bathroom you opt for might be something you want straight out at the end of the bathroom or off to the left. This is all a matter of preference, but remember to try to work with existing plumbing locations.

Of course, there are many things to take into consideration as you work on this bathroom remodel, but the biggest thing to take into account is what your budget is and how you envision your new bathroom to look and feel. A bathroom is a place where you can sit back to relax after a long hard day, so make sure your bathroom is just as inviting as your entryway to the home is.
