4 Tips for Driving Safely During a Road Trip

New England Road Trip With Kids Groton CT

Road trips are a lot of fun. Essentially, you get two holidays in one! The first one is your road trip, and the second one is your end destination. However, road-tripping often means driving for long distances and periods, and no matter how experienced a driver you are, that’s sure to take its toll on you.

If you meet an unfortunate road accident, you should consult a personal injury lawyer before getting into any legal procedure. Also, the legal professionals at Wattel&York, a personal injury lawyer, will help you get the compensation you deserve while supporting you throughout the legal process.

While you may be eager to get to your destination as soon as possible, safety is the most important thing to keep in mind whenever you’re driving, and it’s no different on a road trip. So, if you’re looking for some tips on how to drive safely during a road trip, you’ve come to the right place.

Pay attention

Of course, you should always pay attention while you’re driving. However, if you’ve been behind the wheel for an extended time, you may start to feel tired, and it’s easier to lose concentration.

We’ll talk about ways to prevent this a bit later on in the post, but for now, what you need to know is that you always need to be paying attention to the road on your road trip. You also shouldn’t just focus on your own driving, either – defensive driving can help you predict what other drivers will do, and this can mean having a safer trip.

Frequent breaks

As mentioned, it’s easy to lose focus if you’re having to drive for hours on end without a break. While you may be tempted to power through and make the trip as short as possible, that is not a good idea.

You need to take frequent breaks to stretch your legs and get some fresh air. These breaks will allow you to feel much more alert when you get back behind the wheel. For more information on how often you should stop during road trips, click here.

Plan

Planning a road trip is always fun. You get to pick the destinations you’ll be stopping at, make a fun playlist, and gather all your favorite snacks.

However, there are also other aspects that need to be planned. For example, will you be driving during the day or night? Will you be the only one driving or will you work in shifts? You need to plan these things so that you have a better chance of preventing any hiccups that you may have during your road trip.

Take necessary safety precautions

You have hopefully followed these tips for maintaining your car, which means that your lights, brakes, and tires should all be fine. That being said, you should still have them checked before you go on a long road trip.

On top of that, you should take any other safety precautions that you can, such as wearing your seatbelt and driving slowly if you’re unfamiliar with a road, or visibility is low. Road trips are fun, but not when they end in accidents.

As the saying goes, rather be safe than sorry. So, do whatever you can to stay safe during your road trip, and it should be a fun time for everyone involved!

The Story Behind Brattleboro Retreat Tower

Take a Hike – Historical Retreat Tower in Brattelboro, VT

Have you ever been to Brattleboro, Vermont? It’s a small town in Vermont with a population of a little over 12,000 people.

Despite not having a massive population, it’s still a place worth visiting because of the historic landmarks you’ll find in the area. The Brattleboro Retreat Tower is, by far, one of the most famous historical landmarks in the state.

Before you take a trip over to see it in person and experience it for the first time, you should know the story behind it.

The Vermont Asylum

The Brattleboro Retreat Tower exists on the property of The Vermont Asylum, now renamed as the Brattleboro Retreat. The asylum opened in 1834 and existed for the sole purpose of providing a safe space to the mentally ill. The treatment facility consists of approximately 1000 acres of land covered by different buildings.

What Was the Purpose of the Asylum?

The goal was to help mentally ill patients while treating them like human beings. In the past, those with mental illnesses typically didn’t receive the best treatment for their peers. The Vermont Asylum for the mentally ill offered delicious meals while encouraging exercise and taking the patients out to enjoy the fresh air outside of the walls of the asylum. The purpose behind it was to ensure that these individuals felt like they were at home, even when they were separated from loved ones.

What Is the Idea Behind the Brattleboro Retreat Tower?

Many people come to check out the retreat tower Brattleboro VT has available because they’ve heard spooky stories about it and would like to see it for themselves. The tower didn’t exist when the asylum’s building was first constructed. Instead, patients at the asylum built the tower in 1887. Doctors encouraged people with mental health conditions to work on building outdoors because they felt that it could help the mentally ill individuals, giving them a purpose and keeping them busy.

Many patients worked together to build the tall tower that people still come out to visit today. The initial reason for the tower’s construction was to give individuals a great place to sit and view the stunning scenery around them. Although the goal was to give patients a great view to help them relax and feel at ease, it didn’t work out that way for a lot of the mental patients at the asylum. Unfortunately, several patients climbed the tower and leaped from the top of it, ending their lives in a matter of seconds.

How Many People Committed Suicide From the Brattleboro Retreat Tower?

While we know that several people with a mental health condition at the asylum committed suicide by jumping from the Brattleboro Retreat Tower, the exact number of people who did so is not available to the public.

While we don’t know the number of casualties, we know that it eventually caused the tower to no longer be accessible for the mental patients at the asylum. It was closed off to prevent others from going inside and climbing the staircase. While it’s closed off for the public’s safety, it’s accessible at least one day of the year to give visitors a chance to go up to the top to see the stunning view from such a unique standpoint.

Why Do People Like to Come Out to See the Tower?

Tourists like to see the tower because they hear a lot about it. Ghost hunters enjoy the stories told by others who’ve claimed to see figures of people jumping from the top, only to see nothing when it comes to landing on the ground.

The tombstones that surround the area give off eerie vibes that tend to excite those looking for a bit of a thrill. It’s one of the many reasons people like to visit the tower in person. They want to feel that rush of excitement while hoping to see something out of the ordinary for themselves.

The Story Behind Brattleboro Retreat Tower

People who’ve visited the Brattleboro Retreat Tower often talk about the feelings they experience while they’re there, such as anxiety and uneasiness. They say that they can’t explain the reason for feeling that way, but it’s almost as if something strong comes over them. Numerous visitors stopping by on different occasions have reported seeing ghosts walking around in other areas of the property. It’s one of those places you have to see and experience for yourself.

After learning about the story behind the Brattleboro Retreat Tower and why this landmark is something people often want to see, do you think you’re brave enough to venture over to it and check it out? If you’re planning a trip to the area soon, you can stop by the former Vermont Asylum and take a tour of the place. You never know what you might see while you’re there.

Important Considerations To Keep in Mind When Travelling as a Large Group

Effective Tips for Business Travelers

Traveling is a fun and exciting experience for everyone involved, so it only makes sense to bring more people along for the journey. Unfortunately, things can get extremely expensive and difficult to plan as you add more people. Whether it’s dietary concerns or scheduling difficulties, there are a huge number of things to keep in mind as you add more people to your travel plans.

So in this post, we’ll be offering some general tips and considerations to keep in mind when traveling as a large group.

Use documents to help you keep everything organized

The longer the trip and the more people you include, the more complicated it’s going to get. If you’re planning on traveling for 8 days in Egypt then you’ll have to plan well in advance to ensure that everyone understands the plan and knows what’s going on.

Perhaps the best way to do this is to actually start using some documents to keep everything in order. For example, you could load up a Google Sheets document and start putting in the names of people that are interested in coming. Ask them what dates they’re free and place it into the spreadsheet to keep track of the information. Ask people what their budget is and keep that information handy too. Click here to match your overall budget with your travel expenses. It’s all about keeping track of what people tell you so that you can plan a holiday experience that suits everyone’s budget and schedule.

When in doubt, consider using a group travel planning service

Planning a vacation or trip for a large group of people can be incredibly stressful. It’s a lot of responsibility on your shoulders and it can get extremely difficult to communicate with everyone involved. As such, you may want to choose the gurus of group travel planners and look for a service that is compatible with your needs. We wouldn’t suggest this for a small group of around 4 people, but it does get more helpful if you’re looking to plan a trip for a dozen or more people.

This can help you save a lot of time, it’ll shift the responsibilities to someone else, and it’ll be well worth the extra costs. Of course, if you can manage the responsibility of planning a holiday for lots of people then we’d suggest you do that instead, especially if you want to plan a large group holiday more frequently in the future.

Make a group chat and keep everyone informed

Make a group chat on apps like WhatsApp, Signal or even Facebook. Invite everyone that’s involved and make sure you keep them up-to-date on everything. Whether it’s polling for location suggestions or letting them know when the holiday is, it’s a good idea to keep everyone in the loop so that they all understand what’s happening.

Just make sure you don’t get too annoying with notifying your group of everything. Notifications can get annoying after a while and may get people to mute the chat, so you may need to speak to each person individually to confirm your plans.
