This little municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim in Germany is a wonderful place to visit. The town itself is known as a ‘certified air and Kneipp spa’ and is situated on the west side of Lake Chiemsee, just 16 kilometres away from Rosenheim.

Things to see and do
What’s great about a trip to Prien is the fact that there’s plenty to see and do while you’re there. It might be a smaller town but that doesn’t mean that there’s a limit in regards to what attractions are on offer; this little lakeside location has a lot to offer.
You could opt to hop on the Chiemsee Bahn train and take a steam train ride and tour of the local area. If you want to see more of Prien, this is a good step to take.
You could even opt to take the steam train to the port for Herreninsel and take a trip to this 238 hectare island. Situated on Bavaria’s biggest lake, Herreninsel island is the biggest of the lake’s three primary islands, and is definitely worth a visit. Explore the island’s many walkways and visit the ancient palace.
You could also opt to spend some of your time exploring the local museums to Prien. There are a few different museums to choose from, including the Museum Salz & Moor and the Museum Torfbahnhof. If you’re someone who loves to visit museums and learn about a location’s culture and history, then you will find these offerings extremely interesting.
