Naples Winter Wine Festival
If you love wine and like the idea that your money is doing some good, head to The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples for an international charity wine auction. Vintners, sommeliers, chefs and philanthropists flock to this three-day event that raises millions for at-risk and underprivileged children around the world. This event has raised helped over 40 non-profit agencies with more than $161 million raised from this event in the last 17 years.
Cape Romano Dome House
Located a short drive from Naples on Caxambas Island, south of Marco Island, FL, the Cape Romano Dome House is a modern abandoned house. What makes this domed chamber hurricane-resistant home so remarkable, is that the house was originally built on Marco Island. However, time, hurricanes and erosion took a toll on the island. This home is now 180 miles offshore.
In the pedestrian-friendly Fifth Avenue South area, you’ll find a foodie paradise. One place you must visit is Bar Tulia. This cocktail bar and gastropub serve tapas-style plates called “sfizi.” They also have larger plates. Offerings vary from octopus to ramen to a bucket of chicken.
Historic Palm Cottage
This beautiful home was built in 1895 by one of the founders of Naples, Walter N. Haldeman. He also helped initiate commerce in Naples by building the Naples Pier. Take a tour of Palm Cottage, the oldest home in Naples, and continue with the Norris Gardens behind the house. Take a short walk over to the Naples Pier when you have finished the tour.
This shopping center immerses you in the historical fishing industry. Overlooking working docks, the 40 vendors sell locally made crafts and antiques. The tin buildings provide an excellent opportunity to grab some unique nautical themed treasures. When you’ve shopped to your heart’s content, stop at one of the many fresh seafood restaurants nearby.
