With a New Year comes the idea that a new leaf will be turned. This year 2018 will be bigger, better and more positive for each of us. I am in love with the idea that a New Year inspires so many to create their own New Year’s Resolutions but why is it that so many fail at meeting their goals? I think there’s this inspiration that society pushes upon us. Each year we have resolution ideas tossed in our face, many will opt to lose weight, be more mindful or perhaps find ways to think more positive. Whatever you set for your New Year’s resolution is fine, because it’s all about who you are and who you desire to be in the New Year.
I used to hop on the bandwagon of setting New Year’s resolutions but then I realized I wanted to try to grow all year round. This means I actually use the concept of a New Year to reflect upon the mistakes made in the prior year, goals that were created and not obtained, relationships or friendships that were made and/or broken. I think about all of the instances where I didn’t listen to what was best for me, I think about all of the times I put others first when I shouldn’t have, I think about good memories and how I can expand upon those good memories. I reflect about who I am internally.
With a New Year comes a new leaf, a new chapter in life so to speak. Reality is it will take me about three months to start writing 2018 instead of 2017 on contracts and parent permission slips. The New Year will take me into a new view of who I am and what I need to do to continue being that person I admire so much. I am not sure that a New Year’s resolution is my thing, but I do know goals and growth are my things. So today as I sit and reflect upon what this New Year can bring me, I hang onto one important mindset – that I deserve certain treatment simply for being a human and that I don’t have to put everyone else first if it eliminates the person I am to my core.
You can be a kind human being without risking the loss of who you are.
For this New Year, I aspire to continue creating goals, meeting them and adjusting them as things change. Regardless of a New Year or a new month, life has a funny way of dropping bombs on us and testing our inner strength. I will remain steadfast in having Faith that everything happens for a reason and to remain confident that what is meant to be, will be.
Do you set New Year’s Resolutions? I would love to help encourage you throughout the year so please leave a comment with your resolution so we can help each other be better individuals in the New Year.

I don’t make them usually but I did last year, and I am this year. By this time next year, I’d like to have enough saved to get into a house. That’s my New Year’s Resolution. 🙂
Happy New Year to you!
